Most charitable organizations report an increase in giving around the holidays but are often overlooked during the rest of the year. At DLP, our employees are encouraged to give back to our communities all year long. With involvement in many charitable organizations and causes, there’s always a way to show you care. Our CEO, Don Wenner, who is extremely active in the community states, “It’s imperative that we, as both individuals and a company, help the communities in which we live and do so in a tangible way. The importance of giving, both monetarily and physically, will help others in need and create a positive environment which encourages paying it forward.”
Valley Youth House
Valley Youth House empowers and strengthens the lives of at-risk children, youth, and families through inclusive programming that builds resilience and fosters growth and independence. Valley Youth House is one of DLP’s largest fundraisers and Funding Specialist Nick Bianchini is an active board member. Over the past several years, DLP has sponsored 5K runs with all proceeds going to Valley Youth House. In 2016, DLP held a half marathon, 5K run, and 1-mile kid run and raised over $9,000.
Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley
Turning Point is an organization that offers shelter and outreach to victims of domestic violence and their families. Every December, DLP adopts several families involved with Turning Point and provides holiday gifts for family members. This year, a request has been made for gift cards in order for families to spend quality time together, shopping for their needs and special items for their children.
Toys for Tots
With bins and boxes located throughout all of DLP’s offices, toys can be easily donated and with the assistance of The Salvation Army and local children’s hospitals, it will find its way to children who may not have a present to open. Please consider dropping off an unwrapped toy this holiday season.
Adopt a Family
During the month of December, DLP will adopt a family currently living at one of our multi-family properties. An entire team of DLP Santa helpers arrive with presents, food, and other items to help make an especially memorable holiday for the entire family.
During the spring months, DLP employees donate canned goods to Second Harvest Food Bank which in turn distributes the goods to local food banks.
Habitat for Humanity
During the summer season, employees and their families can become involved with Habitat for Humanity and help build a house for a family in need. Working together on a project such as Habitat promotes pride, teamwork, and the value of doing something extraordinary for those in need. In 2016, a team of about a dozen DLP employees helped build a home in Easton.
Wednesday Casual Dress Day for a Cause
DLP employees can participate in Wednesday Casual Dress Day by donating $2. All contributions will be donated quarterly to charities selected by each individual office (Bethlehem, Poconos and Florida offices) and approved by the DLP Charity Committee.
DLP also involves itself in smaller and sometimes temporary charities depending on life events. For example, hurricane relief for local families who have recently moved into the Lehigh Valley from Puerto Rico and are in need of clothing and household supplies. A local church is currently collecting for these folks and DLP employees are directly donating towards this cause.
